Leadership, Space... and feeling very small

It’s been busy this week. The kind of busy where you’re absolutely exhausted, but in a good way, so I'm not complaining! A whirlwind of Christmas shows and pantomimes for the kids… and, for me, a whirlwind of work too.

On Tuesday I ran my Courageous Leadership workshop at the beautiful Swan in Streatley. We had Dallas Campbell join us as our special guest, and the room was full of brilliant people who showed up ready to be open, honest, and brave.

We explored leadership in a very un-stereotypical way, what it looks like in real life, not in job descriptions. The event was one of my favourites of the year. I ended the day with Christmas gifts for my guests, and then I received the best gift the next day: two participants wrote the loveliest, unprompted testimonials on LinkedIn.

If you want to read a summary of the day, they are here:

That kind of feedback means more than I can ever say.

The week didn’t slow down from there. On Wednesday I headed to Satuccino, (space + coffee!) caught up with some friends, and then straight into London for dinner with some business buddies, one of whom is a former SpaceX Trainer and Air Force pilot. We talked about everything from growing our businesses to returning to the Moon and Mars.

A little tired the next morning, I made my way to RAL's Appleton Conference, which immediately boosted my energy. It’s always such a great blend of science, new technology, and the big picture of the UK space sector. We listened to topics ranging from space skills to space weather to investment trends in the sector. And then the standout for me: the latest images from the Vera Rubin Observatory.

There’s something about seeing these images of the universe, that brings everything into perspective. I always feel very small and very insignificant… and somehow that’s strangely comforting. A reminder that we’re only here for a fleeting moment. So we may as well make it count.
